Fed: Labor says pollies don't deserve pay rises for super cuts

The Opposition says federal politicians don't deserve a pay rise to compensate for
superannuation cuts.

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD last week followed Labor's lead and agreed to cut super
contributions for new MPs and senators from 69 per cent to the community standard of nine
per cent.

But opposition foreign affairs spokesman KEVIN RUDD says the prime minister, cabinet
ministers, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate
should also have their superannuation scaled back under the changes.

He says Mr HOWARD still has some catching up to do to meet Labor's plan to cut superannuation
for all federal MPs and judges.

Australian Greens Senator BOB BROWN says his party also opposes any pay rise for MPs
to compensate for planned super cuts.
