FED: National Easter road toll reaches 17

SYDNEY, April 16 AAP - The national Easter road toll has risen to 19, with a six-year-old
boy dying after the utility truck he was travelling in spun out of control and rolled
in north-western New South Wales.

Police said the boy was thrown from the vehicle after the 30-year-old male driver lost
control at Burren Junction, near Walgett last night.

The boy was taken to Wee Waa hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver and another 25-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries and were
taken to Tamworth hospital.

The boy's death takes the NSW Easter road toll to three, although police said the death
of a two-year-old girl was provisional while they investigated whether the road where
she was killed was classified private or public.

Queensland and Western Australia have recorded five road deaths for the holiday period,
while Victoria has recorded four.

South Australia and the Northern Territory have each recorded one death.

Only Tasmania and the ACT remain fatality free.

(EDS: AAP's Easter road toll figures are for the period 0001 April 12 to 2359 April
16. Some states and territories may have different periods.)
